The balance transfer cards typically offer a low (or no) interest rate for a promotional period of time – usually 6-12 months. A consumer can use the balance transfer cards to move existing credit card balances to one card and consolidate the amount of credit card payments they make each month.
As I write this comment, we have just received our first notice from our bank that a foreclosure proceeding is about to begin.

They have asked that we make payments on our mortgage, which is only $900 per month for the 1600 square foot home that we currently occupy.

We did not live above our means when we were employed, and it took two of us to put bread on the table and a roof over our heads.

We are both college grads who have student loans and learned precious little in four years at an Ivy college.

Our friends on the other hand who weren't "smart" like us, and who went into the work world, all developed skills like plumbing and electrician that makes them in demand no matter the economy.

The old model in America isn't working, as 70% of our kids go on to college to study a dummied down curriculum, structured to coddle the least bright minds in our Nation, and to be subject to "intellectuals" who couldn't buy a meal except in a sick environment where their bad ideas are worshiped.

Sorry for these words,

It is just so frustrating to read an article such as this when we would like nothing more than to have the opportunity of following the advice.

Beth

Thank you for this article.

My husband and I know exactly where our money is going.

We have both lost our jobs.

Although the suggestions made here are clearly helpful, I am assuming that you are speaking to those folks who have an income, or to those with no income like us, but no living expenses.

If anyone out there has a way for us to follow this suggestions here without an income and with ongoing living expenses for ourselves and two children, we are all ears.

[...] The key point here is that getting out of debt is automatic, not instantaneous. I followed similar steps myself, which you can read about here: 7 steps to getting out of debt. [...]
